Winter Market makes holiday shopping a snap
This Saturday, Dec. 5. from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., head to the museum to shop the season’s best regional art market.  For one day, the museum will become a winter shopping wonderland featuring 55 artistisans who will display pottery, jewelry, sculpture, paintings, mixed-media artwork, beadwork, woodcarvings, and much more for visitors to purchase. This year, we’re excited to host several popular artists from our annual Indian Market and Festival, plus artists in residence basket weaver Kelly Church (Grand Traverse Bay of Ottawa and Chippewa) and painter Ryan Singer (Diné) – who will be selling their work  as well. While shopping, enjoy holiday music from The Mittens and visit the Sky City Café for lunch. Stop in the Eiteljorg Museum Store to meet Cowboy Santa from 12 to 3 p.m. (http://www.eiteljorg.org/)

Local jewelry artists Denise Etchison and Laura Villanyi are partnering to beat the economic downtown – each sells the other’s work as a way to embellish her own line.  Denise is a silversmith who creates custom inspirational jewelry featuring whatever sentiment might appeal to an individual customer. She can also customize a charm with words or names.  Laura creates one of a kind flame-worked glass beads than she then combines with silver findings to create sculptural jewelry.  Together, Denise’s silver and Laura’s glass become an interchangeable system of charms that can be combined in a multitude of ways into a piece of jewelry as unique as the wearer. ($16-150) The Basile Studio Shop’s mission is to support talented local and regional artists, to be a year-round art fair, specializing in gifts under $50. A regular holiday tradition is glass snowman ornaments and figurines by glass instructor Yuri Okamoto (image attached). Prices for her work range from $25-55.  There’s no link to these items. Our instructors work one-on-one with you to make your own glass ornament. The Art Center offers different glass activities depending on the time of year—glass hearts for Jan./Feb., glass flowers in Apr/May for Mother’s Day, glass paperweights in May/June for Father’s Day, glass pumpkins in Oct/Nov. for Fall, etc. Various dates available online at www.IndplsArtCenter.org/Samplers.
